Adding reasons, sources and positions earns reputation, and so does a correction that reviewers accept. You earn more when others build on your work: when they reply to your reasons, reuse your statements or sources, or add a source you asked for.
If a contribution is removed, the reputation it earned goes with it. Higher reputation opens up actions that need more trust, such as moderating a topic.
